BPI

The BPI represents the British record music industry; protecting, promoting, and supporting its member companies. Its membership comprises over 450 entertainment companies (including the major labels), manufacturers, distributors and hundreds of independent labels, representing over 90% of the UK's recorded music market.

Founded in 1973, the BPI’s principal task was to act as a unified body protecting its members’ rights against infringement, theft & piracy. Its remit has since considerably expanded. Rights protection remains a priority with its own unique stand alone anti-piracy unit, and with sister company The BRIT Awards, and charity The BRIT Trust, the BPI now represents and promotes the UK recording industry to government, media and the wider public sector.

The BPI provides its member labels with many important services too - such as extensive market research services and training seminars. International support is also available through trade fairs; Midem, Popkomm, SXSW, and its important trade missions to the US & Japan.
